'In order to plunder unopposed,to control, and to manipulate,' zo stelt de kritische auteur en filmmaker Andre Vltchek in Fighting Against Western Imperialism (2014), 'the Western Empire assumed that it has to give legitimacy to its own acts of terror. Those acts have to be elevated to the highest moral ground. Vltchek schrijft vervolgens:

To do so, traditional logical and philosophical thinking has to be decomposed, then 'new thinking' introduced. A thoroughly new breed of stories must emerge, and even how stories are told must change.

Some would ask: 'How could crime be packaged as altruism?'

It can, of course, in those societies that perceive 'reality' after getting stoned on huge daily doses of advertisement and propaganda, two sides of the same coin, two synonyms of lie and deception.

In order for the brutal empire to pose and to be considered as savior of the world, first the analytical thinking of people has to be damaged, their ability to think has to be sharply reduced. The stories they are told have to become 'light,' 'entertaining,' extremely far from the reality.

The human spirit has to be broken, human nature reshaped.

Then all that is real and decent and pure in people has to be dragged through a muddy and non-transparant bath of nihilism. Things that used o be sacred have to be spat on, optimism humiliated, and ordinary kindness and warmth killed.

Instead substitutes have to be injected, if needed, by force.

It is because the acts of imperialism, like constant plunder and the commodification of life itself, are grotesquely unnatural occurrences; they are morbid and pathological. And the only way they can be accepted is if the reality is canceled, and then substituted by a 'new,' gruesome and irrational pseudo-reality.

In zijn beroemde studie The Image.

‘When the gods wish to punish us,’ Oscar Wilde might have said, ‘they make us believe our own advertising.’ The God of American destiny has answered our prayers beyond Jules Verne’s imaginings. He has given us domination over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. But no power is without price. Have we been doomed to make our dreams into illusions?

A dream is a vision or an aspiration to which we can compare reality. It may be very vivid, but its vividness reminds us how different is the real world. An illusion, on the other hand, is an image we have mistaken for reality. We cannot reach for it, aspire to it, for we live in it. It is prosaic because we cannot see it is not fact.

The American Dream was the most accurate way of describing the hopes of men in America. It was an exhilaration precisely because it symbolized the disparity between the possibilities of New America and the old hard facts of life… The unprecedented American opportunities have always tempted us to confuse the visionary with the real… Yet now, in the height of our power in this age of the Graphic Revolution, we are threatened by a new and a peculiarly American menace… It is the menace of unreality. The threat of nothingness is the danger of replacing American dreams by American illusions. Of replacing the ideals by the images, the aspiration by the mold. We risk being the first people in history to have been able to make their illusions so vivid, so persuasive, so ‘realistic’ that they can live in them. We are the most illusioned people on earth. Yet we dare not become disillusioned, because our illusions are the very house in which we live; they are our news, our heroes, our adventure, our forms of art, our very experiece.

Formerly we were saved from the menace of ideology by the elusiveness and the promise of the American dream. Now we replace the dogmas by which men live elsewhere by the images among which we live. We have come to think that our main problem is abroad. How to ‘project’ our images to the world? Yet the problem abroad is only a symptom of our deeper problem at home. We have come to believe in our own images, till we have projected ourselves out of this world.

The ‘problem’ abroad is valuable, however, as a symptom. It can remind us that men need not live in a world of images, that our life of images is a strangely modern, New World life. And it can remind us also of some of the dangers of having so successfully persuaded ourselves,

Vandaag de dag is door de gewelddadige globalisering ook dat 'strangely modern, New World life' geglobaliseerd:

All around the world we have revealed a shift in our thinking from ideals to images. Everywhere we have been the victim of this shift. Without reflecting on consequences, we have become preoccupied with creating ‘favorable images’ of America. Yet by doing so, we may be defeating ourselves.

Almost everywhere today American images overshadow American ideals. The image of America overshadows the ideals of America.

Our thinking has become so blurred, we have so mixed our image and our reality, that we assume our place in the world is determined by our prestige – that is, by others’ respect for our image. ‘Not least of all,’ Walter Lippmann warned in December, 1960, ‘our prestige in the world has diminished. We have ceased to look like a vigorous and confident nation.’

In competition for prestige it seems only sensible to try to perfect our image rather than ourselves. That seems the most economical, direct way to produce the desired result. Accustomed to live in a world of pseudo-events, celebrities, dissolving forms, and shadowy but overshadowing images, we mistake our shadows for ourselves. To us they seem more real than the reality. Why should they not seem so to others?

 Boorstin stelde de volgende wezenlijke en in feite retorische vraag:

We can live in our world of illusions. Although we find it hard to imagine, other peoples still live in the world of dreams. We live in a world of our making. Can we conjure others to live there too? We love the image, and believe it. But will they?

Abroad the making of credible images seems a problem. It is hard to persuade others to fit themselves into our molds, to be at home among our illusions, and to mistake these for their own reality. At home our problem is the opposite. What to do when everybody accepts the images, when these images have pushed reality out of sight?

Here, in the United States, the making of images is everyday business. The image has reached out from commerce to the worlds of education and politics, and into every corner of our daily lives… Our national politics has become a competition for images or between images, rather than between ideals. The domination of campaigning by television simply dramatizes this fact. An effective President must be every year more concerned with projecting images of himself. We suffer more every day from the blurriness and the rigidity of our image-making.

Examples are everywhere. Life becomes more and more illusory. We have become so accustomed to our illusions, they have become so routine, that they seem no longer produced by any special magic. The forces I have described in this book converge on our everyday experience. They are revealed in almost everything we do, in almost everything we see, in the very words we use.

'Pseudo-reality is designed to dwarf reality,' merkte Vltchek op in zijn boek Fighting Against Western Imperialism:

Psychologically, for many people there is no border between reality and pseudo-reality, anymore. Consumers of blockbuster movies and the mass media were made immune to the real terror the Empire is spreading all over the world, because they have already seen 'much more frightening' stuff beaming form the box.

Simultaneously, indoctrination gets encoded permanently in people's brains; they cannot make the distinction, anymore, between some outright BBC propaganda against China or Cuba and the reality they encounter when they visits those two countries.

Some now judge the world and make political and other decisions strictly based on that hybrid of reality and pseudo-reality: 'Chinese murdered brutally several thousands of people when they torpedoed some fictional ship, as we witnessed in the latest Hollywood blockbuster, therefore we have to finance their 'opposition' and send our battle ships to East China Sea, to deter the potential expansion plotted by Beijing.'

And if our film studios and pop writers keep demonizing Chinese people, South Americans, Russians, Arabs, Iranians, North Koreans and many others, the imaginary threat, in some very twisted but well calculated and effective way, suddenly begins to justify real and countless aggressions by the military forces of the Empire.

The US House of Representatives Openly Calls for Regime Change in Moscow

The US House Resolution to send lethal arms to Ukraine also calls for a long-term strategy for the overthrow of Vladimir Putin

Aside from the usually Congressional lust for war so as to secure their billions in military industrial complex campaign donations (slush funds), the key part of the House's bill, calling for lethal aid to Ukraine, has noting to do with Ukraine at all.
The resolution gets to the root of what America's elite really want...the dismantling, and subsequent resource plundering of the Russian Federation.
As taken from the US House Resolution:
Whereas the United States and its allies need a long-term strategy to expose and challenge Vladimir Putin’s corruption and repression at home and his aggression abroad;
Let that sink in for a second. The United States Congress has put, in writing, their goal to formulate a "long term strategy" to challenge the democratically elected President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
What would the US say if Russia's Duma or China's National Assembly voted through a resolution that stated a need to implement a...
long term strategy to expose and challenge President Barack Obama's corruption (trillions of lobbying dollars for political influence) and repression at home (police violence, NSA spying) and his aggression abroad (Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Venezuela, Syria, Ukraine)."

Congress Demands War in Ukraine! Written by Daniel McAdams.
Just weeks after a European-brokered ceasefire greatly reduced the violence in Ukraine, the US House of Representatives today takes a big step toward re-igniting -- and expanding -- the bloody civil war.
A Resolution, "Calling on the President to provide Ukraine with military assistance to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity," stealthily made its way to the House Floor today without having been debated in the relevant House Committees and without even being given a bill number before appearing on the Floor!
Now titled H. Res. 162, the bill demands that President Obama send lethal military equipment to the US-backed government in Kiev and makes it clear that the weapons are to be used to take military action to return Crimea and parts of eastern Ukraine to Kiev's rule.
Congress wants a war in Ukraine and will not settle for a ceasefire!
The real world effect of this Resolution must be made clear: The US Congress is giving Kiev the green light to begin a war with Russia, with the implicit guarantee of US backing. This is moral hazard on steroids and could well spark World War III.
The Resolution conveniently ignores that the current crisis in Ukraine was ignited by the US-backed coup which overthrew the elected government of Viktor Yanukovych. The secession of Crimea and eastern Ukraine were a reaction to the illegal coup engineered by US officials such as Victoria Nuland and Geoff Pyatt. Congress instead acts as if one morning the Russians woke up and decided to invade Crimea and eastern Ukraine.
There is no mention at all of US backing for the coup -- or even that a coup took place!
Indeed, a read of the Resolution shows it is revisionism par excellence:
Whereas the Russian Federation under President Vladimir Putin has engaged in relentless political, economic, and military aggression to subvert the independence and violate the territorial integrity of Ukraine; ... Whereas Russian aggression against Ukraine is but the most visible and recent manifestation of a revisionist Kremlin strategy to redraw international borders and impose its will on its neighbors, including NATO allies;
Shamefully, the resolution pins the blame for the thousands killed by Kiev's shelling of civilian centers in eastern Ukraine on Russia:
Whereas this Russian aggression includes the establishment and control of violent separatist proxies in other areas of Ukraine, including arming them with lethal weapons and other materiel including tanks, artillery, and rockets that have enabled separatist militias to launch and sustain an insurrection that has resulted in over 6,000 dead, 15,000 wounded, and more than a million displaced persons;
The Resolution goes even further, explicitly calling for the US to support regime change in Russia itself:
Whereas the United States and its allies need a long-term strategy to expose and challenge Vladimir Putin’s corruption and repression at home and his aggression abroad;
"Expose and challenge" the elected Russian president at home.
During the Floor debate on the Resolution, Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY) even compared Russian "action" in Ukraine to Hitler's invasion of Czechoslovakia, demanding that this time the "Hitler" must be stopped before he goes further!
Not a single Member of Congress took the Floor to oppose this dangerous Resolution.
Passage of this Resolution should make it clear that the political leadership of the US will accept nothing short of war with Russia.
Update: The Resolution passed in the House, 348-48.
